The Power and Practice of Image

Recently in a meditation I had an encounter with what I now refer to as my Dark Knight, a figure on horseback, clad from head to toe in black armour. Some significant insight, healing and energy has come in the wake of this encounter, with, I might add, much work still ahead. The power of your inner images, whether they come from vision, meditation or dreams, and what they mean in your life both positively and negatively is what we are exloring in this class.

We have now on our website, previously on the wall of the classroom in The Upper Room, a quote from our Inner Guidance: "If you could learn to see your car, your house, your job, your relationship as a mythic image as well as a physical reality, you would understand its function and find life less painful". What this implies is that not only do you see your mythic images on the inside (in meditation, vision and dreams), but that they are also playing out in your outer, practical, day-to-day lives in some form.

Krishnamurti once said that we live by images, and, significantly, that he no longer needed them. Moving past "Images" and into "Knowledge", as A Course in Miracles calls it, is what distinguishes the Master from the rest of us. As a Seeker you need to become better acquainted with your images. The more of them you know and integrate on the inside, at the mythic level, the less they need to play out or act out in your outer world. I don't expect to encounter the Dark Knight as such in my physical reality. But, who knows, maybe I'm in for a shock there! What he embodies on the inside, however, has, does, and will take on some form on the outside.
